5 Tips to Drive Traffic To a Website

Need Traffic To Your Website? Do This.

1. Install Yoast SEO on your website.
Since WordPress is the most used platform right now I'll teach you how to do Search Engine Optimization (SEO) on WP websites, and this plugin also works on a few different Content Management Systems (CMS)s as well. Install Yoast SEO. It's useful for creating sitemaps, optimizing meta tags, and a ton of other goodies for you. To make things simple it makes the technical stuff seem easy.
2. Create a sitemap
Sitemaps tell search engines where to find your content on your website so they can easily crawl/index your pages. Mostly you can find your sitemap here: yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml – If you're a WP user use Yoast SEO to generate a sitemap, and if you aren't using Yoast go to Google and check out a generator for your website.
3. Create a robots.txt file
Robots.txt file is a plain text file that tells search engines where they can or cant go on your website. Weird right? It's always a good practice to have a robots.txt file so certain things won't be crawled on your website, sections, pages etc. For example if you're running an ecommerce store you might not want to crawl your checkout page or cart page.
4. Install Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a free tool created by Google and it lets you see how many people visit your website and what they do on your website. One of the strongest free tools by Google. To install this tool just go to Google Analytics and sign up and paste the supplied tracking code to your website.
5. Set up Google Search Console
Google Search Console lets you track performance and see which keywords your website is ranking for. It also keeps you in the loop about on-site improvements and a few things you can change throughout your current website. Make sure to link your Google Search Console (GSC) with Google Analytics (GA) to see data as well.

On-Page SEO Checklist

Now we are going to get into the fun stuff. If you just improve these simple things that I'm going to show you on your website you'll start to rank better and save yourself some money when or if you ever go with a marketing agency.
1. Use short but descriptive URLs
According to Google shorter URLs rank better. blahblah.com/service instead of blahblah.com/Services-Near-Los-Angeles-County-For-You – But don't sacrifice descriptiveness for length. URLs should offer insight into what your going to be clicking on.
2. Writing a Title Tag and Description
Title Tags and Meta-Descriptions are clickable headlines that most users will see on a search engine result page. Their purpose is to provide a short, accurate description of the pages content and its super crucial because they are what is displayed on a search engine results pages (Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs)), web browsers and social media networks. 3. ALT Text
Search engines like Google use images just as much as text to understand your content and decide whether they are relevant to users search engines. We will optimize your images with ALT text that contain the right keywords so that search engines can comprehend your content efficiently.
4. Use ONE H1 tag on your page
I've read a couple things that it's ok to use as many H1 tags and it doesn't affect you but I truly believe still that using one H1 tag is vital and that's all you should use for a page. H1 tags stand out for the title of the page and a page can only see one title. H1 tags should be the main keyword, and then sprinkle in H2/H3 tags for other keywords. H1 tag for: Digital Marketing California or Plumber Los Angeles and H2/H3 should be How To Build A Trench, What Los Angeles Plumber Can Do For You titles.
5. Content, Content and Content
Quality content is the best when it comes to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) with long-form content.
Static Pages
Static pages are those pages on your website that you hardly change. This includes "About Us" and Services pages. We will help your users fully familiarize themselves with your business by writing these pages in a clear manner.
Blog
To make sure your business is blog authoritative we will write long form content that is populated with the right keywords so that you can attract back links and drive a substantial amount of traffic to your website using your blog.
6. Link Structure
External links are pages from different websites that often help users find more information if its not on your website. These are crucial for on-page SEO since they improve your sites credibility if you link out to an authoritative website which can result in your content and website pages to rank higher. We will help eliminate any links external links that are poor quality or banned websites.
Internal Links are those that go to different pages on your website An example would be a link on your "About" page that leads to your "contact" page. Internal links help pass link juice to different parts of your website and enable this to be crawled and indexed more effectively by search engines.
(Freebie since most websites I come across don't do this) – Also for the love of god it's < year >. Make sure your website is Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) secured. Seeing a [Not Secured] tab turns a lot of people off.

Website Organization

The longer users stay on your website, the more search engines recognize your content as being relevant and useful and this makes you rank higher on all search engine result pages (SERPs)
How do you ensure users stay longer on your website? By organizing your website in a manner so that it is easy to navigate to different pages and access to content internally on your website. This ensures optimal user experience and forces search engines to thoroughly index your pages as well as deem them credible and useful to users.

404 Errors And Broken Links

Another reason for poor user experience is broken links and 404 errors. 404 errors is a client-side error which occurs when a user tries to access a page that doesn't exist on the server. This happens when you either remove a page or move it without updating the URL.
404 errors are usually caused by broken or dead links and can adversely harm your search engine optimization. You could use SEMrush or any other tool like SEMrush to analyze your website for any broken links and fix them accordingly. This ensures that users have a better experience on your website, they stay longer, and significantly boost the number of returning visitors to your website.

Website Speed

Google came out with a update that page speed would be a major ranking factor, especially for the mobile version of websites. The longest majority of users that wait for a site to load up is 4 seconds. Anything more than that will lead to people clicking off your website. This is why you need to dedicate time to testing your website, and to ensure that its loading speed is excellent. If your website is running slow, Go find tools on Google that make sure this doesn't happen. Upgrading your web hosting, optimizing images and installing a Content Delivery Network (CDN) to ensure that you reduce the loading time and this will increase the traffic to your website.
Nobody has time to wait 4 seconds for a website to pop up. These aren't the AOL days.

Mobile Optimization

This is < year >. The world has gone mobile. Everyone has a cell phone. Since < year > Google released its mobile-friendly update, making sure your website is mobile as well has been a huge ranking factor. According to Google, more than 51% of smartphone users have discovered new companies, products and services while using their smartphones. This tells you just how much your website needs to be mobile optimized and we ensure that your website is ready for mobile users and if not we can optimize accordingly. If it's not optimized for the mobile phone you need to do this now.
