Discussion 2: A Client doesn’t Care about SEO Data. A Client Only Cares about Sales Improvement|ROI. Are Both Statements Often Right?

Any experiences or advice you can share when clients don't let you be the specialist but you are still responsible for results / Return on Investment (ROI)?
Also, any tips of effective SEO client education that was simple and effective? "Not too much to read" or "too technical"?

I just make it easy for them to leave if they're kind of a pain to work with.
I let them know that they're getting results from their campaign and I show them. If they're still a pain, they can totally leave. I'm not gonna work hard to keep them, knowing that there are great clients I can work with instead.
As for client education, I just make sure to use words their familiar with.
"I'll rank you #1 in search engines with Search Engine Optimization (SEO)" turns into "I'll help get you more business through Google marketing".
"We're getting your backlinks" turns into "we're getting articles published across the web that mention your company"
"I'm going to use schema markup on your site to help your Google My Business (GMB) rankings" turns into "I'm adding some code to your site so people find you in the maps section on Google"
I always break it down into simplicities for them.
Before taking on a client, I give them a whole presentation that shows what people are typing into Google and how my potential client could be getting that traffic if they were at the top.
I also like to use analogies:
"Mr. Dentist, your site works kind of like your business location. If you're located in the woods, nobody is going to drive by and see you.
But what I'm doing is getting your site on 'Dental Implant Blvd.' where everyone is going so that they can find dental implants."
Believe it or not, they often times get a kick out of the cheesy analogies. Lol

Get him leads with Ads or FB ad.

You really should be targeting either higher volume or higher intent keywords. He is 100% correct in saying it useless ranking without more leads or sales.
You need to either do better keyword research, or work out why the leads aren't converting. The website might suck, the product might suck. You really need to be looking at this and telling him how you will improve conversions. Ranks without conversions don't mean shit

The purpose of ranking is clicks not sales. The website has the job of converting visitors into buyers. If he is ranking look at the conversion issues on the site.

Some clients don't understand or accept that organic ranking DOES translate into more sales, just not as quickly as they think or want. That's why sometimes backlinks can move rankings more quickly. As well as Pay-Per-Click (PPC). I hope this works out for you.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) doesn't produce sales right off the bat, it doesn't work that way.
If he wants instant sales he needs to optimize paid advertising.
But again that's not the problem. You need to communicate with the client better. SEO takes months of time and invested money

Educate them that having a website doesn't equal having a marketing strategy. It's like putting up a billboard on a small street. I've been doing this a lot with my clients.
Many make an assumption that by maintaining their site you are driving leads and traffic.
I have started explaining this clearly to them right away before I do any website work for them. You create the expectations they have and if they have unrealistic expectations then you will be in this situation where you can't please them.
So your ticket out of the situation is either to set them up with marketing or level with them that they won't get leads or sales unless they drive traffic to the site. And it's because they need a proper marketing strategy. Otherwise they will blame you for the lack of marketing results. Take control of the situation.

1. Check if you are ranking for conversion oriented keywords? Perforn keyword research again for more keywords.
2. Is the website conversion optimized?
3. Target sales oriented keywords like buy red apples or best red apples in Milwaukee rather than just red apples.
4. Has the traffic volume grown? Use heatmap tools to track behaviour. Hotjar is good.
5. Run ads for now.. to get him sales while you figure these out.

Great insights you got on earlier comments Raaz!
I would use a tool like Hotjar.com to see what visitors are doing.
If you don't have results yet, give him insights of why he is not getting them!

Better leads are coming to my website from Google My Business. Insight precisely describe actions over the website: Over the map address, over the verified phone calls (including minutes of calls) and subscriptions. Just keep posting content here with pictures and also, renaming pictures with keyword related of main topic. I am getting a lot of traffic from here. Investing? Only time. No PPC neither Ads.
