Pick longtail keywords. So rather than "Horses" it would be "Cool Horses In Colorado" for example.
Much easier to rank for at the start, and then begin to rank for shorter words later.

That's good..how many links needed for each keyword ranked?
👍🏽1
Neil » Hareesh
One H1 header that includes the keyword phrase, and mention the keyword phrase in every paragraph of the text. Also make sure your meta description includes the keyword exactly.
You want one post for each keyword variation you try to rank for, include two internal links within each page. Only use 1 H1 header per page. Any more and Google won't know which term you are trying to rank for
New websites should start by listing in local directories. Google my business is a good start. Make sure your address, website and phone number matches exactly for each listing and is included on your site, and try to stick with known directories. Yelp, Bing for business, etc.
I use a website called HikeSeo. It's $30 a month and they teach you everything and provide all the analytics. They're excellent

I'm not sure to be honest! Google keep everything a secret. SEO guys have to work things out for themselves.

I start off by creating a Google My Business (GMB) account after I've made the website, then I go for citations, get reviews get on social media networks, start creating an online presence. Pretty close to easy to start ranking. and you really don't even need to use keywords and over stuff all of that jazz and everything you need to use just a little bit.
Don't worry about backlinks people are always worried about backlinks, never worried about that in 20 year's. Lmao I'll send proof of two businesses that got over 2k of traffic and customers/leads in three weeks.

pretty impressive 2k of organic traffic is great in that short amount of time. I just started my leather goods business and struggling to get organic traffic. Currently paying for Google ads. I’m on social media networks, tried to not keyword stuff, and make the site what users would expect but seems it’s just taking time.

I'm gonna look your stuff up. Have you looked up ranking a shopify site? You're limited.. you're almost better having it on your own website on your own hosting. Then you can do whatever you and you can track your results. And you're also in total control.
people don't think it matters what platform that you're on to help ranking but it does. Some restrict you, some help you.

I am on Shopify right now so I’ll have to check out how to rank one. I know code so can modify as much as they’ll let me which I’ve already had to do to fix other issues I’ve ran into with a free theme. My site is provisionleatherworks.com

yup I seen it. Very Good to know code. I know enough to get by, I had the customer earlier this year switch from having their own site to a Shopify site because they didn't know how to run a website behind the scenes and didn't want to take the time to learn it. Which is understandable but all platforms have weaknesses and positives. It sucks when you know what they should be doing but it's not your business to control you know.
Yeah I would look at some videos on YouTube see if there's any info on it I just stay away from it. Very nice site though!!! I will say that.

I have a tech background and more so on the infrastructure/server side so I understand the backend as well as know ruby and JavaScript and some liquid to get by (it’s close to ruby) and Shopify used to be ruby but swapped to liquid. I’ll look at some videos and see if there’s anything I can do to help Search Engine Optimization (SEO) wise for Shopify. Thanks! I tried! I’m getting paid traffic but no conversions yet and idk why. I have hotjar artand seems it may be due to lack of products and lack of color options as well as nothing but wallets which I’m adding belts soon and more color options so hoping that’ll help.

wow your talented. Like I said I know enough to get me in trouble. Lol. you can know code I can know SEO but one thing we both have to understand is that people buy on impulse, we all still have to use colors that they recognize and trigger emotions because that's how we all buy things whether we believe it or not. We all buy off of emotion. like when I'm doing SEO for a carpet cleaning company, I try to lay in not only the benefits but how it's going to make them feel having their carpets clean it's one less thing off the task list and so on.Reason why I mention all that is because of variety we all have to have variety the more choices the more likely someone is to buy. There might be some workarounds I remember looking into doing SEO on Shopify but that was 6 months ago. Also see how fast it loads on your phone and do some testing on that as well. And have you done competitor analysis yet? Just looking at the wallet prices, I'm like I don't even got enough money to put in that wallet.lol. but that might be a case of your targeting only a select demographic. Rich people who can afford to buy it nice ass wallets. So then what happens is you only reach a certain amount of views and only get a certain amount of traffic. I would pause the ads for now until you figure out your audience. And that will help you save some money but you have to invest some time.

I appreciate that! It comes from being lost career wise and doing many things lol from owning a lawn treatment service to SEO which came from marketing a surf website I had in high school, to working at an SEO agency as well as trying to break into software engineering:development and couldn’t but went through a coding bootcamp and then swapped to infrastructure/server wide to now leather crafting haha!
That totally makes sense and it does seem like people buy off emotions. My wife is a photographer and did my photos and we tried to give that holding it in your hand feeling.
I do agree I need more options and choices. I’m in line with competitors with pricing and actually a good bit cheaper on the shell cordovan wallets. I have looked into competitors but need to do more research on demographics and age ranges of their target customers because I think that’s what I’m missing. I’ve been told over and over again that my work is amazing and pricing is in line with competitors but it’s reaching the same target audience which is the hard part as you know.

I've never worked for an agency, and I want a command you on all of your talents on a serious note. sometimes life hits us in different ways and we have to adapt learn expand and all of that in the same goes with marketing any product that's out there. One thing I learned about my past is that I've been in restaurant management I work for probably four of the main pizza joints, plus retail plus warehouse and every job they start at the bottom work my way up I even managed to Walmart no well assistant manager but still but one thing I learned from all of those places it's all about demographics they don't place those businesses out there just for the hell of it, it's well thought out what's our target audience where do they come from how much are they willing to spend what's the demographics of the age bracket all of that.
kind of like us opening up a lemonade stand while we're definitely not going to put it on a non-busy street and hope that we get customers we're going to put ourselves out in front where we can be seen you got a beautiful website you got beautiful products I build websites as well but yours is actually pretty nice and I'm very surprised that it turned out so well using Shopify I have nothing against them it's just that they have a lot of limitations. But one thing that stood out to me is I never realized wallets where that expensive because I'm a cheapie and I'll go to Walmart and get them for 15 bucks so that's a hard sell right there. Well at least for me. But we all know you get what you pay for. And my assumption is is that the older folks that are buying wallets, have to have some sort of money and they're not middle class so how do you target the older generation when a lot of them aren't on the phones like the younger people. So that's one thing to think about I myself I'm been brainstorming for like a month trying to figure out which avenue to go because things are changing and if you read into what's going on we're going to be spending a lot more time at home for the next year so what can I do, the best thing I can think of is investing in delivery. And Amazon. All right well I'll quit rambling right now I'm glad we both got some insight out of it actually.

that’s awesome man. I think that each different experience is almost like a notch in a belt. It gains wear (knowledge) overtime and when you move onto the next it just adds to that same belt and it just builds on each adding greatness and while at the time it may suck or having to transition to different things based on life changes, etc…it’s not a bad thing. I greatly appreciate the kind words. I’ve been through a lot and found leather craft from looking into ways to cope with major depressive disorder that I didn’t know I had for ten years…I finally figured out why I was constantly tired and drained all the time for no reason and leather working really helps and I love it. From the business side to making great products out of amazing leathers.
Wallets are expensive. Belts are too. Well anything that’s not made in a factory by machines or cheap labor is unfortunately expensive. Leather that's high quality like I use is expensive and so is the time to hand stitch which is far longer lasting and looks better than machines. All adds to why myself and other direct competitors are so expensive.
I’ve heard the news. I’m in NC and I have a feeling our governor is going to be making some major changes soon and we’ll all be at home for awhile. As you mentioned you have to adapt to current situations and delivery is a big deal right now and honestly it’s the future anyways but now is more forced due to c0vid.
Anyways I requested you as a friend! I’d be happy to connect and keep in touch.

I accepted it. Would have never known that you took something that had a negative effect on your life and turn it around and he found something positive to put out and then also to try to make money with it. Very far in between would do that.
Your product is actually got my brain thinking. Because I never thought about that even though I'm 51, where do the older folks get their wallets from? So you have a product that's on the higher end. And it can't be mass produced. So I'm wondering in my head what retail chain would carry something like that, because of its value, like it would have to be like a Macy's or something like that. Hmmm. Maybe that's not the solution either it's just got me intrigued. As if I don't have enough to think about. Lol. But seriously investing in deliveries I think, is the future. Just like when all this started this year the second month in I'm like where can I design mass at where can I sell them at it wasn't even 3 months later and that was going on. Not cool to make money off the pandemic but it's right there in our face and on it.

The Summary of Discussion 1: How Can I Rank My Websites With SEO?
Tom
Hi everyone. I own a business in an extremely small niche. I'm new to web design and extremely new to SEO. I built/launched a website fairly recently knowing it wasn't SEO optimized as I needed something to point my customers toward. After doing some research on basic SEO I will need to make some major changes to my website (which is fine and was expected).
On the plus side. Having very basic knowledge has enabled me to check out my competitors SEO. Not a single one of them seems to have paid attention to on page SEO. H1 tags are mostly irrelevant and doesn't match keywords. Metadata is nonexistent and I'd imagine a lot more that I'm not educated on yet.
I'm not big on social media and consider myself a former social media addict (probably not by most peoples standards though 🤭. For this reason, I would prefer to focus on getting organic traffic to my website instead of whoring myself too much on Instagram.
My competitors rank highly on google. Typically at #1 for most products/services and I feel like with their lack of SEO, it shouldn't be too hard to "beat" them.
So the real question is. With an SEO strategy that is better than my competitors. How long should I expect a new website to be able to rank higher than theirs? I understand it's a pretty broad question so broad answers will be fine 😃.
SEO is important and will be done regardless however I'm trying to get an accurate idea of how much resources (time and money) I should throw at it by having realistic expectations.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Tom, it's difficult to say without looking at it, but I'm gonna be so bold and say that within 3 to 6 months, you should start to see good results. If your on page SEO is solid, you have good content and metadata, alt tags and proper citations for your business you will be okay. Does your business require a Google-My-Business (GMB) page? That would also be good to optimize it. Let me know if you have anything questions.

Tom
✍️ Thanks for the reply 🙂 I did try and set up a GMB page however it was locked due to "suspicious activity". This was because the address I used was a virtual office. I am from the UK and my business is registered there however I live in Bulgaria. All my products/customers are in the UK also. Effectively I do the bulk of my work at home in Bulgaria but I deliver my end product (both physical and services) in the UK. For this reason I wanted to come up on google as being in the UK but I have since learned that they do not allow virtual office address/PO boxes etc.
At present I have plenty of time to do as much as I can to give myself the best chance of having a successful 2021. I feel like my competitors will always outshine me in ways such as social media as they have been around much longer and built a massive following. I do however thing I can pick up organic traffic via SEO so I'm going to focus my efforts there.
As much as I'd love to do everything myself (and have made this mistake in the past with some things) I plan to lay the groundwork (basic SEO) myself and then employ the knowledge of an expert to work their magic. My research is also so I can educate myself to know the difference between someone who is worth paying, and who isn't 🤭.👍1

you should be able to set up a GMB as a service area. Check this out: https://www.trustist.com/blog/knowledge-base/creating-a-google-my-business-account-without-a-specific-location/

I followed these steps exactly the first time however it still flagged me as the address i entered (which is mandatory) is a virtual office address. That is what I use for all my business stuff including HMRC etc however google won't accept it 🙁.
also, thank you for the link regardless. I appreciate it 😉.
Alex » Tom
a little trick that is borderline but works is to find a big office building with many offices. Put your business at this address with a fake suite #. Like I said it's borderline but usually you can get away with it. 😅.
Tom ✍️ » Alex
awesome. I'll give that a go. As long as I can stop them displaying the address I might even have friends that will allow me to use their address. I'm sure I can find a way around it somehow!👍1

Tutt
You can have much better content, but if you have no back links your ranking will be low so I would suggest focusing on both.

Tom
✍️ Yep I understand this to be so. I'm researching that next! Genuine backlinks might be really difficult to get as I work in such a tight niche. I might be being a bit defeatist there though. I might need to get a little creative 🤭.
Tutt » Tom
niche links are best but links from any true site will help.

Mark
I would look at Page Optimizer Pro or Surfer SEO. See what is better/different about your content and that outranking you now. Content relevance to search intent is the biggest factor.👍1

Tom
✍️ Thanks for the advice 🙂 I'll check them out!

Gregory
Like others said hard to say but if the competitors really aren’t doing SEO and ranking that is an.
excellent sign 🙂.
I would probably start off with the content creation for those pages and use something like clear scope, page optimizer pro or surfer SEO. See where you land, and then start building the links.
I usually see SEO as a long haul game so 9-10 months, if you’re skilled maybe 2-3 months but cut yourself some slack if you’re new at it, it’ll happen 😉.

Tom ✍️ » Gregory
thanks for the info 😊 I'm all for investing my time and energy in something that will pay off in the future. The harder it is, the more likely my competition are not to bother so I'll get to work 😊.👍1
Gregory » Tom
for sure man. SEO is awesome.
We get the vast majority of our business from SEO. I’ve been tinkering learning paid ads to expand our audience but what little results I’ve done there is basically a drop in the bucket compared to organic SEO for us. Just takes forever (which is why competition is often bad at it 🤭.
